Our company FLYN-YACHTING was founded in 2020 by Laurent Monsaingeon, a former French Navy officer, engineer and former manager of the ports on the Côte d’Azur, and Thierry Voisin, a recognised yachting professional, in response to a specific observation: a few nautical miles, a few hours’ sailing or crossing a maritime border can have significant tax, customs and legal implications.
However, professionals did not always have access to sufficiently accurate and usable data to verify the actual details of a voyage. To address this need, they combined their maritime expertise with their knowledge of yachting to create FLYN-YACHTING.
FLYN-YACHTING has developed its own algorithms, servers and geographical databases, creating a high-precision tracking platform dedicated to yachting. Using the yacht’s position data, our technology accurately reconstructs and analyses each navigation: routes, stopovers, distances, sailing times, border crossings, territorial waters, ports, shipyards and anchorages. This data is then cross-referenced with the applicable regulations to transform a simple geographical position into reliable and actionable information for tax, customs and legal purposes.
Our commitments
At FLYN-YACHTING, technology never replaces human expertise. Every product and certificate issued by FLYN-YACHTING is drawn up, verified and countersigned by a sailing expert. Where AIS tracking of the yacht’s movements alone is insufficient for FLYN-YACHTING to accurately establish the situation, our experts ensure that the product corresponds to the declarations made by the shipowner or the captain: the nature of the contract, the commercial nature of port calls, passenger movements, or voyages outside AIS coverage. FLYN-YACHTING analyses and documents the yacht’s voyage.
It is the responsibility of the professional in charge of the report to ensure that the yacht’s tax, customs and commercial status complies with the required conditions, particularly regarding its suitability for commercial voyages or its eligibility for the 70 per cent deep-sea navigation scheme.
Where necessary, this status must be confirmed by the shipowner’s tax or customs adviser or any other competent yachting professional. With the exception of certain real-time alert services, no FLYN-YACHTING analysis is fully automated: behind every product, there is an expert.
